Ringwood was identified in the Labor Government’s Melbourne 2030 planning document as a Major Activity Centre and a priority for Melbourne’s growth. This project was funded by the Victorian State Government Department of Planning and Community Development, and was initiated to improve the amenity of Ringwood in the lead up to major works in central Ringwood. Village Well was engaged by Maroondah City Council to work with the community of Ringwood and various artists to create a unique art project to activate vacant shop fronts throughout the area to enhance the amenity and feeling of safety.Entitled Moving, the project offered local artists an opportunity to exhibit or install their work in vacant shops in the area. Its aim was to demonstrate how public places can be transformed by artists and their communities through creativity and beauty.

Moving attracted an extraordinarily positive response from artists, community groups and the wider Ringwood community. The exhibition was held from November 2009 to March 2010.
