In response to recent developments in the town and population shifts, Yarra Ranges Shire Council identified a need to understand the changing aspirations and needs of the Yarra Glen community. The project aligned with the timing of council re-elections and was seen as an opportunity to secure Local and State Government funding for streetscape improvements.
Engaged to develop a Revitalisation Strategy for Yarra Glen, Village Well facilitated a series of engagement activities with the business and local residential community. The project provided the opportunity for the community to come together to discuss their ideas and aspirations for Yarra Glen.
Developed in close consultation with Council, community and local businesses, the Strategy aimed to strengthen their relationships with one another and encourage the stakeholder groups to work together. The Strategy recommended a series of council-led streetscape improvements including improving the functionality and connectivity of Bell Street, and a series of community-led small wins to enhance and strengthen Yarra Glen identity.
The project also began the process of rebuilding the community’s trust in each other and Council. It provided the community the opportunity to air their concerns and recent disappointments in the planning process and work collaboratively towards achieving a shared vision with Council.
Embrace our Street has been positively accepted by the community and will be used as a tool to guide and direct future projects in Yarra Glen.
