Roseworthy is a small rural town in South Australia, about 10km from Gawler and 50km from Adelaide, with a population of around 700 people. It has been identified in the State Government’s 30 Year Plan for Greater Adelaide as a significant new urban growth area, potentially delivering a population of 60,000. Roseworthy presents a unique opportunity and challenge to create an entire city that maintains and enhances its existing identity.
Village Well was engaged by developer Hickinbotham Group to facilitate a placemaking and community engagement process to inform the development of the project concept plan.
Village Well spent several days in Roseworthy researching the town and meeting with residents, business owners and community groups and involving stakeholders in place audits. Placemaking sessions facilitated by Village Well were attended by total of 140 people, providing the opportunity for the community to share ideas and visions for future and to explore challenges and opportunities.
In response to the findings from place research and community consultation, Village Well prepared a place vision, capturing the place essence and placemaking themes to guide future expansion and development. The essence and themes directly influenced the direction of the draft concept plan.
