Redcliffe is a beach-side residential and resort destination located 30kms north-east of Brisbane. Identified in the South East Queensland Regional Plan as a Major Activity Centre for the region and with the construction of a new rail station, Redcliffe will soon have rail connection to Brisbane’s CBD.
In collaboration with AEC Group and Lat27, Village Well were engaged to develop a strategy that will guide economic development and creation of a great place.
Redcliffe’s established commercial village is currently experiencing an increase in retail vacancy rates and a steady trend toward a largely single focused economy; allied health services. There is a high population of elderly residents and a large portion of local residents of working age depart the region for work, leading to low local employment and a poor mix of local employment opportunities.
To achieve a sustainable and vibrant local economy in 2031, Redcliffe needed a shared vision, clear direction and local support to achieve its full potential.
Village Well conducted preliminary place research, followed by facilitation of a fast-pace and highly interactive visioning and ideas workshop with key stakeholders. Village Well carefully crafted a shared vision and a series of placemaking ideas to re-energise the local economy as well as create a vibrant day and night centre.
Moreton Bay Regional Council now have a shared vision and a series of quick win and longer term recommendations to help create a sustainable economy and vibrant place to visit and stay.
